AWWA C110

Covers — ductile-iron and gray-iron fittings, 3–48 in., for water and wastewater, with mechanical-joint, push-on, and flanged ends and cement-mortar lining, to be used with ductile-iron pipe.

Does NOT cover (exclusions) — the following are governed elsewhere:

• Compact (lighter) ductile-iron fittings → AWWA C153.
• The pipe itself → AWWA C151; joints/gaskets → AWWA C111; lining → AWWA C104.
• ASME-flange process fittings → ASME B16.9 / B16.5 (different pressure basis).

C110 fittings and their flanges follow the AWWA waterworks system, not ASME B16 — do not assume interchangeability with ASME flanges.

C110 sets minimum requirements for water fittings:

• Materials — ductile iron (or gray iron) with defined pressure classes.
• Dimensions & Ends — 3–48 in. with mechanical-joint, push-on, and flanged ends.
• Lining & Coating — cement-mortar lining (C104) and exterior coating for corrosion protection.
• Testing — hydrostatic/pressure and dimensional conformance.

AWWA C110 is the standard for full-body ductile-iron (and gray-iron) water fittings, 3–48 in., mating with C151 ductile-iron pipe via push-on, mechanical-joint, or flanged connections. Cement-mortar lining protects the interior against tuberculation and corrosion.

It belongs to the AWWA waterworks family: joints and gaskets follow C111, lining follows C104, and the compact (lighter) fitting alternative is C153. The pressure ratings and flange dimensions are AWWA's own, not ASME B16 — a key point when interfacing with process piping.

Engineering Note: AWWA flanges are not dimensionally or ratings-interchangeable with ASME B16.5 flanges in general — at a waterworks-to-process interface, confirm flange drilling and rating compatibility rather than assuming a direct bolt-up.
