  • Threaded / socket-weld / solder-end ball valves → MSS SP-110.
  • Process/petroleum-grade metal ball valves → API 608.
  • Ratings and wall thickness basis → ASME B16.34; testing detail → API 598 / MSS SP-61.

SP-72 targets general-service applications; select API 608 where refinery-grade requirements apply.

Where petroleum or process-grade requirements apply, API 608 is typically specified instead; SP-110 covers the small-bore threaded and socket-weld end variants. Ratings trace back to ASME B16.34.

Engineering Note: Match port type to the hydraulic requirement — a reduced-port ball valve adds pressure drop that a full-port valve avoids.
