- Schedule 40 PVC fittings → ASTM D2466.
- CPVC fittings for higher temperature → ASTM F439 / F438.
- The pipe itself → ASTM D1785.
- Solvent-cement material → ASTM D2564.
D2467 (Sch 80 socket) pairs with D1785 Sch 80 pipe; D2466 covers the lighter Sch 40 fittings.

- Material — PVC cell classification consistent with Schedule 80 service.
- Dimensions — socket dimensions and laying lengths matched to Sch 80 pipe.
- Burst Pressure — minimum short-term burst by size.

Technical Details
ASTM D2467 specifies Schedule 80 socket-type PVC pipe fittings, matched to D1785 Schedule 80 pipe. The heavier Schedule 80 wall suits higher-pressure and industrial/chemical liquid service, and the socket connection is joined with PVC solvent cement to form a fused, monolithic joint.
Threaded PVC connections (Sch 80 only) are inherently weaker and prone to cracking if over-tightened, so socket-and-cement is preferred where possible. As with all PVC, chemical compatibility with the process fluid must be verified.
Engineering Note: Prefer solvent-cemented sockets over threaded PVC where you can, and never over-torque threaded PVC fittings — the notch-sensitive material cracks readily at the thread root under excess tightening or bending.

The Schedule 80 socket PVC fitting standard, matched to D1785 Sch 80 pipe. Schedule 80 (heavier wall) fittings are used for higher-pressure and industrial/chemical service; the socket is solvent-cemented to the pipe. Threaded PVC connections are weaker and limited to Sch 80 — over-tightening threaded PVC is a common cause of cracking. Confirm chemical compatibility of PVC with the fluid.
