Overview

Dimensions and types of gaskets for Class-designated flanges in the European standards system (the EN counterpart for ASME-Class-style flanges).

2

Scope & Applicability

Applies To Industries

Chemical PlantGeneral Industry

Covers — gasket types and dimensions for Class-designated flanges in the EN system: nonmetallic flat, spiral-wound, jacketed, and grooved-metal styles (parts mirroring EN 1514).

Does NOT cover (exclusions) — the following are governed elsewhere:

  • Gaskets for PN-designated flanges → EN 1514.
  • ASME B16.5/B16.47 flange gaskets → ASME B16.20 / B16.21.
  • The flanges and bolting → EN 1092 / EN 1515 / ASME PCC-1.

EN 12560 serves Class flanges within the European framework; EN 1514 serves PN flanges.

Key Requirements

EN 12560 sets minimum requirements for Class-flange gaskets:

  • Types — parts for nonmetallic flat, spiral-wound, jacketed, and grooved-metal gaskets.
  • Dimensions — sizes matched to Class flange facings and bolt circles.
  • Materials & Marking — material designations and identification per part.

Technical Details

EN 12560 is the European gasket standard for Class-designated flanges, mirroring EN 1514 (PN flanges) across nonmetallic flat, spiral-wound, jacketed, and grooved-metal types. It lets projects that use Class flanges stay within the European standards framework for gaskets.

As with the PN/Class distinction generally, gaskets are not interchangeable between the two flange systems; selecting EN 12560 vs EN 1514 must follow the flange designation.

Engineering Note: Confirm the flange designation (Class vs PN) drives the gasket choice — mixing EN 12560 and EN 1514 gaskets across flange types leads to bolt-circle and seating mismatches.

Engineering Notes

The European gasket standard for Class-designated flanges — the sibling of EN 1514 (which covers PN flanges). Its multiple parts mirror EN 1514 (nonmetallic flat, spiral-wound, jacketed, grooved) but dimensioned for Class flanges. Use it when a European project specifies Class flanges but wants an EN gasket basis; do not mix it with PN-flange EN 1514 gaskets.
