Overview
Dimensions and types of gaskets for PN-designated (European) flanges, across nonmetallic, spiral-wound, jacketed, and grooved-metal styles.
Scope & Applicability
Applies To Industries
Covers — gasket types and dimensions for PN-designated flanges (per EN 1092): nonmetallic flat (Part 1), spiral-wound (Part 2), non-metallic PTFE-envelope (Part 3), jacketed and grooved-metal (Part 4), etc.
Does NOT cover (exclusions) — the following are governed elsewhere:
- Gaskets for Class-designated flanges → EN 12560.
- ASME B16.5/B16.47 flange gaskets → ASME B16.20 / B16.21.
- The flanges themselves → EN 1092-1; bolting → EN 1515 / ASME PCC-1.
Match the gasket standard to the flange system — EN 1514 for PN, EN 12560 for Class, B16.20/21 for ASME.
Key Requirements
EN 1514 sets minimum requirements for PN-flange gaskets:
- Types — separate parts for nonmetallic flat, spiral-wound, PTFE-envelope, jacketed, and grooved-metal gaskets.
- Dimensions — sizes matched to EN 1092 PN flange facings and bolt circles.
- Materials & Marking — material designations and identification per part.
Technical Details
EN 1514 is the European gasket standard for PN-designated flanges (EN 1092), issued in parts covering nonmetallic flat, spiral-wound, PTFE-envelope, jacketed, and grooved-metal gaskets. It is the EN equivalent of the ASME B16.20/B16.21 pair, dimensioned to the PN flange system rather than ASME Classes.
Because PN and ASME Class flanges have different facings and bolt circles, gaskets are not interchangeable across systems. Class-designated flanges in the European system use the companion standard EN 12560.
Engineering Note: On mixed-standard projects, confirm whether a flange is PN or Class before selecting the gasket — an EN 1514 PN gasket will not correctly fit an ASME Class or EN 12560 flange.
Engineering Notes
The European (multi-part) gasket standard dimensioned for PN flanges to EN 1092-1 — the EN counterpart of ASME B16.20/B16.21. Its parts cover nonmetallic flat, spiral-wound, jacketed, and grooved-metal gaskets. Because PN and Class flange bolt circles differ, do not fit an EN 1514 (PN) gasket to an ASME Class flange; use EN 12560 for Class-designated flanges in the European system.
