Applies to: Socket-type CPVC Schedule 80 pressure fittings for hot water service to 200 °F (93 °C) and corrosive chemical distribution; domestic hot and cold water systems; industrial chemical process piping at moderate temperatures.
Does NOT cover: Standard PVC fittings for service below 140 °F (ASTM D2466/D2467); CPVC pipe (ASTM F441); CPVC CTS (copper tube size) fittings for plumbing (ASTM F438); high-pressure or elevated-temperature above 200 °F service.

Technical Details
ASTM F439 CPVC fittings extend plastic piping capability to hot water and corrosive applications where standard PVC is inadequate. Chlorination of PVC resin increases chlorine content from 56% (PVC) to 67% (CPVC), significantly improving thermal resistance (CPVC service limit 200 °F vs. PVC 140 °F) and corrosion resistance against chlorine, dilute acids, and caustic soda.
Engineering note: CPVC and PVC are visually similar — the "CPVC" marking is the only reliable field identifier. Never substitute PVC fittings for CPVC in hot water systems; PVC softens and loses pressure integrity above 140 °F. For concentrated sulfuric acid or aromatic hydrocarbons, verify chemical resistance of CPVC against published corrosion tables, as CPVC has poorer resistance than PVC to some organic solvents.
