Why PE for waterworks
Its fusion-welded joints create a continuous, leak-free, fully restrained pipeline — advantageous for buried mains and trenchless (HDD/sliplining) installation, and it resists corrosion and tuberculation. Small-diameter service tubing is covered by the companion AWWA C901; main disinfection follows AWWA C651.
Engineering Note: Because C906 PE joints are fully restrained by fusion, thrust blocks needed for gasketed (bell-and-spigot) pipe are generally not required — but confirm restraint at transitions to gasketed or mechanical-joint pipe, and include the C906 surge allowance in transient/water-hammer checks.
